Welcome To Pilgrims and Pioneers!

After many years of researching my family geneaology I have been lucky enough to discover actual information about my relatives that lived in the Pilgrim Era and the Pioneer Era- while many people also have realtives from those eras- many do not know their names or where they lived- actually seeing the proof in print makes you much more aware of who they really were.
After discovering these relatives it of course made me curious to learn more about the eras that they lived in and what their lives were like as, the history I learned in grade school had long since been forgotten.
I decided to start this blog for others who are also interested in these eras.
Some of the information here will be actual facts about my realtives and some will be information about the eras in general that I have found on the web.
I hope you will enjoy traveling back in time with me!

Vintage Photo ca. 1921

I was going through genealogy things tonight & found this photo of my dad when he was young. Love the knicker's!! He was born in 1921 to Arthur Pierceson & Temple Shere Pierceson.

His father Arthur died when he was 3 yrs. old.

My grandmother Temple married Arthur's brother 4 years later- so the man I grew up knowing as "grandpa" was actually my great Uncle.

This resulted in my father being a very spoiled young man.

My grandma had arthritis in her hands and could not crank the hand crank to the car to start it- as had to be done in those days. She would tell my dad to crank it for her & he would refuse unless he could drive the car. There fore a six year old was allowed to drive!

In his 20's he had his own photography dark room so that he could develope his own pictures, obtained a pilot's license and owned & flew his own small airplane.

One day my mother asked him to bring home a pound of hamburger, dad being the free spirit that he was, flew over and dropped the hamburger from his open cockpit plane. The hamburger landed in the picked cornfield with a corn stalk through the center of the package! Believe me- my mama wasn't happy that day! It was a story she told until she died a little over a year ago!

My father passed away in January 1976 at the age of 54. He led a short life but did most of the things he always wanted to do!

Good heavens, Deb, he was such a character! 54 is too young to die. I know, it's the quality that counts, but still, that is just not enough time to have your dad. "A short life and a merry one" is a popular saying, but I wish for very LONG happy lives for those I love.

BTW, Can you imagine the lawsuits nowadays if someone caught a six-year-old driving??? It would probably make the national news!

You are so right Holly! Daddy was a character! and yes today his driving would have made big news!
I too hope the rest of my loved ones live long lives! I am doing my best to see that happens!
