Ronald Reagan was born in an apartment above the local bank building in Tampico, Illinois on February 6, 1911 to John "Jack" Reagan and Nelle Wilson Reagan. Tampico is a small town about 15 miles from my home & is where most of my family ancestors are from.
As a boy, Reagan's father nicknamed him "Dutch," due to his "fat little Dutchman"-like appearance, and his "Dutchboy" haircut; the nickname stuck with Ronald throughout his youth. Reagan's family briefly lived in several towns and cities in Illinois, including Monmouth, Galesburg and Chicago, until 1919, when they returned to Tampico and lived above the H.C. Pitney Variety Store. After his election as president, residing in the upstairs White House private quarters, Reagan would quip that he was "living above the store again."

Oh, that's a cute story! And maybe he turned out so rich because he was born above a big pile of money! I must have been born above a plastic Visa card...LOL...
isn't it fun to find these facts of famous people that are so close to you?
btw - i was trying to follow your blog, or subscribe to the posts, but i can't find it anywhere on your site....... is this intentional? or should I just lurk? LOL!

Hi Cindy- I am not that good at the technical side of blogging but I know I have followers that are notified of updates- unfortunately I can't tell you how you sign up to follow my blog.
Don't forget Dixon! We visited his home there. He was a lifeguard too for several summers and was credited in saving 34 lives in the Rock River!
We have camphosted at White Pines STate Park near Mt.Morris/Oregon, the past 3 summers, and know the Dixon area well....eventho we're from Indiana!
You are so right about Dixon Corgi Dog Mama! It is only 15 miles away from me- it is great you have stayed in Oregon- almost in my backyard!
