Oliver McKenzie married my gggrandfather's( Benjamin Franknlin Dow) sister Emily Dow. They are pictured here with their children Ray & Eliza.
I think the photo must be from the late 1800's
I have only seen two photos of Benjamin but Emily does resemble him.
How serious & somber they all look.
Maybe they were not so happy about getting all gussied up in thier Sunday best!
People in olden photos do indeed often look somber. I have heard that it's because they felt it was a serious (not to mention expensive) thing to undertake. Several of our modern-day cultures in other countries also like to look serious in their photos. My friends from Korea, in all their wedding pictures, are completely somber. They felt the occasion warranted a truly serious look!
ReplyDeleteI love old pictures...wish I could find more from my Grandmothers days. I know my GF was a decendant of President Tyler but don't know how to check and see how far back. My GF name was Tyler and he was born in 1875 I think...first name was William. I love learning about the past and days of the Pioneers. It might have been hard times but Im sure they didn't have much crime back then.
