Loara Standish Sampler

Loara Standish was the daughter of Pilgrim Miles Standish.

A sampler stitched by her is housed at the Pilgrim Hall Museum. Part of the sampler reads:

Loara Standish is my name Lord guide my heart that I may do thy will Also fill my hands with such convenient skill As may conduce to virtue void of shame and I will give the glory to thy name.

The sampler was stitched on 50 count linen- I can't imagine doing this!

More photos of the sampler may be viewed at http://www.pilgrimhall.org/samplers2.htm

  2. How lovely!! I am a Standish and live in Canada. My father took us to the Miles Standish gravesite, Plymouth Rock and the Plantation when I was a child. What a great piece of my family history!! Thanks for sharing :)
